Like so many people, I watched A Montage of Heck this week. And one of the biggest surprises for me was actually my own reaction. I love Nirvana. Come on, I was working in a record store in 1991, I still remember listening to Bleach and Nevermind for the first time and thinking "Well, we've really got something here folks..."

But...I thought Kurt was a self absorbed a-hole. I thought his attitude was a little "affected" (my grandmother's polite way of saying fake). I don't know that I learned anything new about him from the documentary. What was really illuminated was how different I am in 2015. I'm more receptive. I'm more loving. I'm less cynical. I'm less judgmental. I wish Kurt could have made it out of his twenties because maybe things would have been different for him too.

In A Different Time On A Different Floor

I took a couple of days off work to potty train the princess. It is funny how football cheers and basketball chants from 30 years ago can be used during potty time with just a couple of minor substitutions. Every awful thing you've ever heard about potty training is true, plus about 50 other things that folks are just too embarrassed to say out loud.

But one thing I know for sure is this: my parents and grandparents somehow had the patience to wait this thing out with the most stubborn girl in the world (my sister) so we will make it too. Send nice dry thoughts our way!

I'm surprised by one of the things I miss from my Nashville years,,,Writers in the Round. Then I remember that for every really awesome song and story, there were at least 10 awful songs and stories that were unbelievably bad. But there were many really good writers. Happy Earth Day everyone! I always like to take some time to consider how to reduce my carbon footprint on Earth Day. I've made a few small changes that at least make me feel like I'm making a difference. Last year I stopped using paper towels to clean my house, I use newspaper from our recycling bin to clean mirrors and windows then sponges, brushes and microfiber towels for everything else. Not sure what I'm going to try this year but I plan to hop over to http://www.nature.org/greenliving/carboncalculator/ to recalculate my footprint.
